Recently, we stumbled in Giessen, the Netherlands, upon this memorial stone.
It is pure Art Nouveau and tells about the end of a project whereby a wet waterlogged area was separated into two rivers; The Maas and the Waal.
The ceremony on 18-8-1904 was attended by the queen of the Netherlands and her husband.
The curls and carvings symbolize the splitting of these waters.
